Preferential Industrial Estate Land Rental Extended Two Years

On Dec. 8, 2004, the Executive Yuan moved to stimulate investment by approving an extension of the preferential rental of land in industrial estates by two years, to the end of 2006. This is expected to benefit more than 300 industrial zone companies, boost investment by NT$111.2 billion, increase the government¡¦s tax revenues by NT$1.9 billion, and create 21,900 jobs.

¡@¡@This measure is called the ¡§00-66-88¡¨ program because it provides for zero rental for the first two years, 60% of the normal payment for the third and fourth years, and 80% of the normal payment for the fifth and sixth years. The preferential rental is applicable to all developed industrial zone land, including zones developed with assistance from local governments.

¡@¡@The Ministry of Economic Affairs inaugurated this program in May 2001, to good results. By the end of November 2004 a total of 634 companies had won permission to lease industrial land and structures. The land involved amounted to 381 hectares; NT$244.2 billion in investment was created, leading to an annual production value of NT$367 billion and 44,046 new jobs. Obviously, this has had a substantial impact on industrial development, the upgrading of competitiveness, and the efficient use of land in industrial estates. The NT$60 billion originally allocated for the program has been used up, and the Executive Yuan has allocated an additional NT$30 billion to continue attracting companies to industrial estates.
