EDI Reporting Permitted for Short/Over-land Sea Cargo

¡@¡@Marine shippers are highly concerned about the transmission of short/over-land reports. Relief is on the way; thanks to vigorous promotion by the Directorate General of Customs, the EDI transmission of such reports is to be inaugurated by Sept. 20 in a breakthrough that is expected to save shippers large amounts of time required for the amendment of shipping manifest and thus enhance the efficiency of transshipment operations.

¡@¡@Short/over-land reports are used to deal with situations in which abnormalities in cargo are discovered by shipping operators when the cargo is unloaded. Different time limits apply to the amending of relevant documents according to the individual situations. In the past, the documents submitted by operators had to be filled out by hand and carried to the Customs by designated personnel for time notation.

¡@¡@Under the new online EDI transmission rules formulated by the Directorate General of Customs, shipping agents will be allowed to transmit manifest correction and short/over-land reports directly via the DGC website. If the manifest correction is submitted within the time limit, then the amendment can be handled online; if the time limit has expired, however, then the amendment will have to be accomplished by documents that are filled out by hand.
