Taoyuan Air Cargo Park Free Trade Zone to be Inaugurated by Year-end

The Taoyuan Air Cargo Park Free Trade Zone is to begin operating in the late December. With its proximity to Chiang Kai-shek International Airport and its functions of processing, freight warehousing, and logistics, together with its surrounding industries and a convenient land-sea-air joint shipment network, it will become a new center for logistics in East Asia. This was also the observation of Secretary General Huang Chao-Hsin of the Council for Economic Planning and Development following a visit to inspect the progress of the parkˇ¦s development.

ˇ@ˇ@The secretary general noted that the Taoyuan Air Cargo Park Free Trade Zone is the only aviation zone among the five free trade zones that have been approved in Taiwan so far, and is the only one that will be able to carry out processing in a location adjacent to a restricted aviation area. Taiwan is situated at the hub of Asian air routes, and the entire Taoyuan Air Cargo Park Free Trade Zone is a customs-bonded area with multiple functions that include processing, trade, logistics, and conventions and exhibitions. With less government regulatory measures, the zone will also be able to engage in autonomous air-cargo logistics operations and management.

ˇ@ˇ@The Taoyuan Air Cargo Park Free Trade Zone has undergone two and a half years of planning and construction by the Far Glory Group, under an agreement signed with the Civil Aeronautics Administration in 2003. It covers an area of 45 hectares and 300,000 ping (one ping is 36 square feet) of building space, and will have a goods handling volume estimated at 1 million tons. It will provide around 25,000 jobs. For more information, please visit Taoyuan Air Cargo Park Free Trade Zone website at http://www.ftz.com.tw.frontend/index.jsp.
