MOEA Allows Investment in 0.18-micron Processes in China

On Dec. 29, 2006, the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) promulgated a revision of the Guidelines Governing the Review and Supervision of Investment in an IC Foundry Plant in Mainland China, allowing companies in Taiwan to transfer 0.18-micron process technology to their invested enterprises in mainland China for their own use. This liberalization is expected to help companies take orders from nearby buyers and maintain their competitiveness.

The MOEA notes that major manufacturers from all over the world are rushing to invest in China and take advantage of the bright prospects there. In addition to consolidating the leadership position of Taiwanˇ¦s semiconductor manufacturers, the opening of 0.18-micron process technology transfer can accelerate the technological upgrading of the islandˇ¦s manufacturers.
