Indian investment mission targets biomedicine and green energy

As part of Taiwan’s global investment promotion program, Dr. Christina Liu, minister of the Council for Economic Planning and Development (CEPD), will lead an investment mission to India on February 20. During its five-day stay in that country, the mission will hold investment seminars and call on potential investors in the capital city of New Delhi, the financial center of Mumbai, and the new industrial city of Ahmedabad.

According  to  the  CEPD,  this  mission  will  be centered on green energy, high technology (including ICT and WiMAX), smart electric vehicles, biotechnology and medical tourism, digital content, and land and industrial estate development.

Representatives from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Ministry of the Interior, National Science Council, local governments, Chinese National Association of Industry and Commerce (Taiwan), Taiwan Electrical and Electronics Manufacturers’ Association, TECO Group, Acer, Delta Electronics, Polaris Financial, PwC Taiwan, Lee and Li Attorneys-at-Law, Tsar & Tsai Law Firm, and other government and private organizations will join the group. With several dozen participants, this will be the largest investment mission that Taiwan has ever sent to India.

Dr Liu notes that the core objective of her mission is to promote two-way economic and trade cooperation. India possesses outstanding industrial technology, and Taiwanese enterprises can collaborate with companies there in establishing high-tech parks and developing India’s emerging construction industry. This mission will be a kind of return visit, following a mission led by Ar Rm Arun, co-chairman of the Science and Technology Committee of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), which came to Taiwan on January 20 and called on the CEPD seeking further opportunities for cooperation.
